Ridley Township

Ridley Township, located in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, is a suburban community approximately 11 miles southwest of Center City, Philadelphia. As of the 2020 census, the township had a population of 30,822 residents.  The township encompasses several distinct sections, including the census-designated places (CDPs) of Folsom and Woodlyn, as well as the unincorporated communities of Crum Lynne and Holmes, and a portion of Secane.  Housing in Ridley Township primarily consists of single-family homes, with a mix of architectural styles including singles, twins, and rowhomes. The median value of owner-occupied housing units is approximately $246,600, which is slightly higher than the Pennsylvania state median. The Ridley School District serves Ridley Township, Ridley Park Borough, and Eddystone Borough. The district encompasses approximately eight square miles and operates nine schools: seven elementary schools (grades K-5), one middle school (grades 6-8), and one high school (grades 9-12). As of the 2022-2023 academic year, the district enrolls about 5,519 students, with a student-teacher ratio of 16:1.  The township hosts a variety of businesses and attractions. Notably, the first Wawa convenience store opened in Folsom in 1964, marking the beginning of a popular regional chain. While the original store has since closed, Wawa maintains a presence in the area. Residents and visitors can enjoy several parks and recreational facilities, including private swim clubs, and a full-size public outdoor basketball court.  Transportation options in Ridley Township are robust, facilitating easy access to surrounding areas. Major highways, such as Interstate 95 and Interstate 476, run adjacent to the township, providing north-south and east-west connectivity. Public transportation is available through the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA), which operates bus and regional rail services connecting Ridley Township to Philadelphia and other parts of Delaware County. Overall, Ridley Township offers a blend of suburban living with convenient access to urban amenities, making it a desirable location for families and individuals seeking a community-oriented environment.
